What does an American life look like from the outside?

On her first extended sojourn in the United States, Indian documentary filmmaker Nishtha Jain happens to rent a room in the home of an outrageous Austinite. Roxanne is a boisterous, tattooed, chicken-fried-steak-eating Texan. She’s also aging and alone, grappling with letting go of a life lived large. As Roxanne packs up to move on, Nishtha takes up the camera to unpack the elements of an American life. Summer with Roxanne unfolds as Roxanne introduces Nishtha to the Austin to which she’s bidding farewell, revealing her entanglements in iconic moments of local lore and forging an unlikely friendship with her foreign tenant. The film explores our relationships with possessions and the imperfect and transitory nature of existence. Hilarity ensues.
